In her extensive work BACK UP, Seet van Hout visualizes the complexity of memory: how chaos and structure alternate, how we remember and forget. The installation consists of large cotton rolls hung from the ceiling with embroidered text fragments: news and poems and articles on the subject of memory. The viewer is asked to move between the text strips and, while wandering through, gets an impression of van Hout’s fascination with human memory. For her, memory is an inexhaustible source of inspiration and runs like a red thread through her work. Since 1996 she has been working on works of art on this subject under the title ART OF MEMORY.
